Could also be that I have no time reference of when Aeris actually dies in the game. It's somewhere between Midgard and the Comet.

All I can do is hope they get everything done within 3 games so they can finally focus on making good games again.

Three games is optimistic when they've padded out the ~4 hours of Midgar in the original game to a standalone title. Keeping that in mind and factoring in the story, then the second game of the remake could have a good cliffhanger end in Niflheim. I think that would be five towns plus Gold Saucer in the second episode. Getting it all done within three episodes in total would require an abridged version of the world of Final Fantasy VII and that would be a bit odd after the strong focus on Midgar to kick off the remake series.

I can absolutely see them making the open world part of the game a lot more linear and scripted. But I guess they have no reason to rush anything since all of the games are guaranteed to be a huge success.

I never really liked FFVII and now I have a legitimate reason to hate it because it keeps SE from making a better game instead. At the current pace I probably won't get FFXVI before the end of the decade.
