3DS was released in the west 9 years ago this week making it the joint third longest active Nintendo platform with the NES as it comes to a close this year despite the rough start the platform had the current longest active Nintendo platform before being discontinued is the Gameboy running for 14 years which is 3 years even after its successor the GBA launched and a year before the NDS released, the DS itself is the second longest active with 10 years.
DS and 3DS however didn't really have staggered launches like the GB and NES as the former two were available WW within a month of the initial launch unlike the latter two as NES came out in Japan in 83 and the west in 85 while hitting PAL regions in 86 while GB was out in Japan and NA in 89 and everywhere else in 90.
