Tuesday news, part two:

Overwatch's new experimental mode coming tomorrow, Jeff Kaplan says 'don't freak out'
https://www.pcgamer.com/overwatchs-new-experimental-mode-coming-tomorrow-jeff-kaplan-says-dont-freak-out/
In January, Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan revealed the Overwatch Experimental Card, an upcoming new mode that will enable players on all platforms to test planned changes. It's similar to the public test realm in some ways, but aside from being accessible to all players (the PTR is restricted to PC), Kaplan said that it will be focused on gameplay changes rather than bug testing. And because it will be part of the live game, progress made in Experimental will apply toward levels and special event progress, something the PTR doesn't offer.

A messy legal dispute puts the Descent reboot in a nosedive
https://www.pcgamer.com/a-messy-legal-dispute-puts-the-descent-reboot-in-peril/
Remember Descent: Underground? The descendant (get it?) of the classic six-degrees-of-freedom shooter Descent was announced in 2015 with an eventually-successful Kickstarter, launched on Steam Early Access later that year, was removed from Early Access in 2017 so developers could "focus on implementing single-player, tech trees, and the other cool features," and was then slated for proper beta testing (renamed as simply Descent) in late 2018, followed by a planned release in 2019. It then seemed to fall off the face of the Earth.

Disc Room is a meat grinder hellscape coming to Steam this year
https://www.pcgamer.com/disc-room-is-a-meat-grinder-hellscape-coming-to-steam-this-year/
Sometimes you want to play a 300 hour CRPG full of excruciating moral dilemmas and unforgiving tactical combat. At other times, you just want to avoid swirling meat grinders in a whimsical distant future. Disc Room belongs to the latter blueprint, indeed, it basically is the blueprint: you're a tiny person navigating an "intergalactic slaughterhouse" full of meat grinders (they're called "alien saw blades" in the game).

Beyond Blue, the ocean exploration game from the makers of Never Alone, is delayed
https://www.pcgamer.com/beyond-blue-the-ocean-exploration-game-from-the-makers-of-never-alone-is-delayed/
Beyond Blue is an underwater exploration game, inspired by the BBC series Blue Planet 2, being developed by E-Line Media, part of the team behind the 2014 Alaskan folklore adventure Never Alone. It was announced a couple years ago with a slow-paced, meditative, and at times kind of creepy trailer (angler fish had that effect on me), and set for release sometime in 2019.

Rainbow Six Siege may go free-to-play someday, but first Ubisoft wants to solve smurfing
https://www.pcgamer.com/rainbow-six-siege-may-go-free-to-play-someday-but-first-ubisoft-wants-to-solve-smurfing/
There are more ways than ever to spend money in Rainbow Six Siege. Tally up the $25-$30 annual passes, $15 premium cosmetics, paid renown boosters, seasonal paid alpha packs, $10 battle passes and it’s a lot for a game that still requires a minimum buy-in of $20. When I sat down with game director Leroy Athanassoff at the Six Invitational 2020, I was curious to know: will Siege ever go free-to-play?

New Minecraft Dungeons video is all about the blocky environments
https://www.pcgamer.com/new-minecraft-dungeons-video-is-all-about-the-blocky-environments/
Minecraft Dungeons is a dungeon crawler, so you'll be roaming various areas from an isometric perspective, slaughtering various familiar Minecraft foes with melee and ranged attacks, in environments resembling biomes from the main game. The video embedded above details the kinds of environments you'll visit, and some of the thinking behind their designs.

Tank controls are back in free survival horror Dead County
https://www.pcgamer.com/tank-controls-are-back-in-free-survival-horror-dead-county/
Resident Evil 2 did a pretty great job of modernising survival horror, but there's room, of course, for throwback horror games with tank controls, cinematic camera angles, and ginormous polygons stuck together with sellotape. It's pretty budget, but Dead County is a free survival horror that successfully captures much of the spirit of Resident Evil.

Aquamarine is a psychedelic underwater survival game inspired by Mobius
https://www.pcgamer.com/aquamarine-is-a-psychedelic-underwater-survival-game-inspired-by-mobius/
Exploring Earth's oceans are great, but what about exploring other-worldly oceans? Subnautica and the upcoming In Other Waters show the wonder and fun of exploring subterranean alien life, and after playing the Kickstarter pre-alpha demo of Moebial Studio's Aquamarine, its gorgeous underwater alien world will be joining them.

Wholesome houseboat sim Spiritfarer gets its first gameplay teaser
https://www.pcgamer.com/wholesome-house-boat-sim-spiritfarer-gets-its-first-gameplay-teaser/
Spiritfarer, announced last year, looks like a perfect panacea for stress. It's a fetching resource management game that gives you a cute houseboat and tasks you with ferrying the spirits of animals to the afterlife, like Charon's nicer sister. You can get a good look at life on and off the boat in the first gameplay teaser, above.

SnowRunner shows off new chilly environments and more stuck trucks
https://www.pcgamer.com/snowrunner-shows-off-new-chilly-environments-and-more-stuck-trucks/
Ahead of its launch in a couple of months, off-roading sim SnowRunner is showing off more of the locations that you and your trusty vehicle will have to contend with. Like its predecessor, MudRunner, physics and geography will get you into jams as well as out of them, but this time you've also got to worry about a new nemesis: snow.
