Of course they can release one next generation if they release one now.  But they won't have time and they won't want to overexpose the IP to release one for launch if they do so.

Nah.
Call of Duty, Halo, Assassins Creed, Battlefield and so much more do frequent game releases and still sell 10's of millions of copies.

Sure, but they won't.  It's been 6 years.  The next game will almost certainly be a built from the ground up.

I would damn well hope so. Mario Kart 8 isn't using the Switch's hardware to it's fullest extent being a port from the WiiU.

As already stated, the sales have slowed down a lot in comparison to Mario Kart, which, if I'm not mistaken, has actually accelerated in sales each year.  Further, Zelda isn't a racing game.  The sales won't cannibalize each other in the same way.  The original BotW will continue to sell well.

It's still selling well, despite slowing sales. - But the announcement for the sequel came 9~ months ago.

Of course they "can".  But it doesn't make any sense for them to do so.

Well, if it gives a fervor for people to rush over and buy a Switch... I would argue the opposite.
