Thursday news, part two:

Desperados 3 is now coming this summer
https://www.pcgamer.com/desperados-3-is-now-coming-this-summer/
I'm so glad to be writing about Desperados 3 right now. Its fusion of Wild West cool with the stealth puzzles of Shadow Tactics: Blades of Shogun is something I don't want to miss. I'd been fearing the worst since the game missed its planned 2019 launch. It doesn't help that developer Mimimi has been pretty quiet since the Desperados 3 closed beta back in July too. What happened?

https://www.pcgamer.com/rainbow-six-siege-will-adopt-a-pinging-system-similar-to-apex-legends/
Non-verbal communication in Rainbow Six Siege is getting a major upgrade. With Ping 2.0, players will have new ways to call out gadgets to teammates without a mic. The first iteration of Ping 2.0, coming to the Siege test server in the first half of Year 5, will let players ping gadgets to show their exact location on the map.

PUBG is raising funds for Australia with a limited-edition frying pan
https://www.pcgamer.com/pubg-is-raising-funds-for-australia-with-a-limited-edition-frying-pan/
The bush fires that have ravaged Australia over the past several months are now "contained" thanks in large part to the onset of heavy rains—which, unfortunately, has also resulted in major flooding, damaging winds, and dangerous surf. But the devastation left behind, including 33 deaths, an estimated 3000 homes destroyed, and as many as one million animals lost, must still be dealt with. To help with that effort, PUBG Corporation has released a limited-edition charity frying pan skin for Playerunknown's Battlegrounds, with all funds raised earmarked for Australian fire relief.

Wolcen players are getting fed up with all of its game-crashing bugs, glitches, and exploits
https://www.pcgamer.com/wolcen-players-are-getting-fed-up-with-all-of-its-game-crashing-bugs-glitches-and-exploits/
Just before Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem launched out of Early Access last week, its recent ratio of positive reviews on Steam had surged to 91 percent. After four years of troubled development, including a massively downsized list of innovative features, it finally seemed like the French studio behind the Diablo-like action RPG had found a path forward that players liked. But the week following Wolcen's launch has been nothing short of a disaster: Game-breaking bugs, server issues, a frustrating lack of polish, and an easily exploitable economy are just a few of the reasons Wolcen's Steam review ratio has fallen to just 56 percent. Of the 19,827 reviews Wolcen has received since launch, 9,782 are negative.

https://www.pcgamer.com/kunai-was-review-bombed-by-a-single-person-in-a-state-of-anger-claims-developer/
Benjamin de Jager from TurtleBlaze, which recently released charming platformer Kunai, writes on Gamasutra that the game has fallen victim to one such singlehanded review bomb, bringing the game's user metascore from 8.1 to 1.7.

Turn Notepad into an RPG with the clever, free And Yet It Hurt
https://www.pcgamer.com/turn-notepad-into-an-rpg-with-the-clever-free-and-yet-it-hurt/
Yes, that Notepad. The one that comes with Windows, and that a million readme files are written in. Now you can use it to play an RPG—it's kinda astonishing.
Backing up a little, And yet it hurt is a thoroughly traditional fantasy game where you have to a) slay a dragon, and where b) your family is killed just a short way in. You, a heroic whelp, have to train and outfit yourself to destroy the dragon. And you do this, naturally, by futzing about with .txt files.

Subnautica: Below Zero now lets you explore a shipwreck and make new fishy friends
https://www.pcgamer.com/subnautica-below-zero-now-lets-you-explore-a-shipwreck-and-make-new-fishy-friends/
A new early access update for Subnautica: Below Zero has appeared, dropping the wreckage of a crashed ship into the massive ocean. It's a big rusty vessel that you can swim inside and explore, though you'll want to keep an eye out for dangerous aquatic aliens lingering around it. While the wreck is the update's highlight, there are a couple of even better additions.

Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2 is here and turns you into a spy
https://www.pcgamer.com/fortnite-chapter-2-season-2-is-here-and-turns-you-into-a-spy/
Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2 has begun. It's called Top Secret and is all about spies, if you hadn't already guessed from the teasers. As predicted, the central Eye Land has been reworked and turned into The Agency, having now been taken over by operatives Ghost and Shadow. You'll need to side with one of them to change the fate of the Eye Land forever.

With Humankind, Amplitude is making an effort to reevaluate the fundamentals of historical strategy games like the Civilization series. That's why the game's latest development video delves into how the studio has approached the strategic potential of terrain.

Session gets 'Skate-like controls' and a new skate park in the latest update
https://www.pcgamer.com/session-gets-skate-like-controls-and-a-new-skate-park-in-the-latest-update/
Session is already one of the best skateboarding sims on PC despite being in Early Access and nowhere near finished. The only way from here is up, hopefully, as its latest update should prove. It adds a whole new skatepark called crea-ture park (named after the developer) for you to tear up with the new grind and slide animations.

And lastly, a sad news for the PC world:

Larry Tesler, inventor of the cut, copy, and paste commands, dies at 74
https://www.pcgamer.com/larry-tesler-inventor-of-the-cut-copy-and-paste-commands-dies-at-74/
Computer scientist Larry Tesler, who was an instrumental figure at Apple in the '80s and '90s, died on Monday at the age of 74, according to Apple Insider.
Tesler began his career in the '60s as a programmer and Stanford AI researcher before joining Xerox in 1973. One of his inventions during his time at Xerox is something so ubiquitous, it's easy to forget that someone invented it.
With Tim Mott at Xerox, Tesler created the cut, copy, and paste commands we use daily. He didn't invent the fundamental idea of moving digital text from one place to another, but did create the specific method and naming convention that endured.
