So, there is a rumor going around that Halo Infinite has a $500m budget. Here is how that compares to earlier games in the series:

Halo 2- $120m development plus marketing budget ($163m adjusted for inflation)

Halo 3- $76m development plus marketing budget ($94m adjusted for inflation)

Halo 4- $100m development budget, unknown marketing budget (though Phil at the time said that it was the most expensive game MS ever developed)

If this rumor is true, I think it is safe to say that they are planning to support Halo Infinite long term. Maybe future Halo campaigns will just be DLC’s for Infinite, with Infinite multiplayer supported thoughout the entire generation? I can’t think of any other reason why Halo Infinite would have such a huge budget, and the name Infinite even implies long term support.

I can elaborate on this. I’m very active on the Halo YouTube scene. It’s believed that the development of the Slipspace engine from scratch is also part of that number. That coupled with the marketing push for a new generation of Xbox’s. That  Series X and Halo Infinite will go hand in hand. You won’t be able to hear about one without the other, so piggybacking on the new gen marketing will only benefit Halos exposure but technically contribute to its total cost.

Then there’s the simple reason that this is a 5 year game as opposed to the usual 3 for Halo titles. And 343 has hundreds of employees where as old Bungie had what...less then half at their most?

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.
