I'm afraid I'm not following. Please explain.

He's exaggerating to make a point.

Looks more like a quoting of Trump:

Trump's claim that 'immigrants cause all the crime'.

Hopefully Runa can clear things up soon...

There's actually a really strange point to be made, here. See, You don't see the good things I want to say because I don't feel the NEED to praise or be positive all the time when it comes to a lot of things. If there's a topic where everyone's happy, I don't need to interfere or put in my two cents becuase it'd just be another opinion in a sea of positive opinions. It'll look like an echo chamber and I don't want to perpetuate that.

Hell, I even think that games, movies, TV, and literature are also all pretty awesome. Gaming is better today than it has been for the majority of my life, Movies are more respectful of their audiences and risky than they've been for years, TV is more risky and fun and engaging than it ever has been, and books and other forms of media are all going through boom periods. almost all of this is due to the technological infrastructure we have with streaming and online functionality that gets more accessibility to more audiences, thus ensuring there's something for everyone. Games used to JUST be one-and-done games or ones that never end. they USED to be simple affairs in different, easily segmentable genres based on gameplay styles and such. Now, we have indies and blockbuster games and online games and free to play games and mobile games and singleplayer games that can be any blend of genres and styles you could fathom. Yeah, microtransactions and loot boxes are objectively terrible...but they only account for like less than 5% of the gaming industry. Stuff like Netflix and Hulu gives creators FAR more freedom to make unique and quirky film and TV that you'd NEVER see in the past.

My point is, in many ways, the world is better now than it has ever been.

When it comes to world poverty rates, war, scientific progress, crime, and all that jazz, we're doing better than we ever have been. You'd never know it since media is a business and stoking the flames of drama and sharing negative news that gets people angry pays the bills and gets the hits, but the reality is that things are actually pretty good. Corporations are shit and politics are less about doing the right thing and more about fighting the opposition, but things are actually pretty good in the grand scheme of things. When it comes to human rights, progression in terms of gender, sexuality, or ethnical equality, we've come so remarkably far in the last 20 years it's kind of astounding. we're making so much progress and the world is SO much better for SO many people it's insane, and I love it. That's why I get so angry in these political threads. All I see is a rather large contingent of people boldly and aggressively shouting that Muslims are subhuman in a world where a simple google search can actually give you all the information you need regarding REAL statistics on extremism rates and comparisons to other religions. People say that Gays ruin families when any search at all will provide you with all the data to see that no, that is unequivocally not the case.

I'm always upset in these threads becuase we collectively should know better. I see entirely too many instances of people - especially those on the political right - fearmongering and hatemongering and making claims and saying stupid shit that SOUNDS reasonable if you don't actually put any thought into it but fall apart at the most rudimentary research. And yet, despite their claims being obnoxiously easy to disprove, their voices carry becuase while people are smart they're also so, profoundly stupid and easily manipulated. Someone screaming 'Autism is caused by vaccines' or 'the earth is flat' is so patently ridiculous that any normal, reasonable, intelligent person can easily dismiss it as the nonsense it is, yet people's inherent fears perpetuate it. The same can be said for stuff like Trump's claim that 'immigrants cause all the crime'. IT's factually, provably, astoundingly wrong...but people still believe it becuase it's easier to blame illegal immigrants - thus creating an us vs them tribalistic mentality - than it is to actually delve into the research and find the underlying problems in this world to fix it.

Climate Change, wealth inequality, bigotry in all its forms, and so many other global factors are being stunted from having any progress done to them becuase of a vocal, shockingly large contingent of people don't WANT to fix them or don't WANT to take responsibility and thus deny their importance. People like RJTM1991 and EricHiggin and a handful of others on this forum are actively making the world a worse place by pushing their stunningly wrong stances on so many matters and muddying the water by clouding the judgement of others and I find that absolutely appalling.

Not only are they not helping, they demonize those who actually want to do something about it, and that's abhorrent behaviour.

I am positive on the whole about humanity becuase we clearly have so much potential and can do so much, which is exactly why there's no excuse for so much of today's problems to continue to exist. Bigotry is only a problem becuase the vocal minority who believes that all muslims are terrorists or that black people are more prone to crime or that the Chinese are gonna take over the world speak louder. Climate change is a problem becuase 'skeptics' keep pushing false narratives and acting like the 'skeptic' community has ANY science supporting their side, when it just doesn't. Fearmongering and HAtemongering are far easier to perpetuate than truth, becuase truth requires you to put in hard work to learn and understand.

Which is why I'm so persistently angry about politics.

And to make it worse, virtually anything I've said in this post could be turned around by someone dedicated enough to make it sound like I'm some tyrant trying to silence people or take away freedoms. I'm certainly not doing that, but if I had to choose between redneck mcmexicansterkerjerbs' having the right to wear a KKK uniform and protest trans rights vs solving climate change and fixing wealth inequality...well, dumb people kinda have to get out of the way and stop resisting positive change. I'm sick of the vocal minority ruining it for everyone else. and I'm even more sick of the fact that SOMEOnE will try to turn that around and use it as an excuse to disrespect minorities that are actually oppressed or mistreated.
