Kojima's latest is selling like hot Metal Gear!

June 26, 2008 - With Metal Gear Solid 4 confirmed at half a million sales in Japan and one million in Europe, the big question is, just how many copies has the game sold overall. While we don't have sales figures just yet, we do know the game's shipped number: three million.

Famitsu.com, in its coverage from a Sony investor meeting in Tokyo today, reported that the game has topped this milestone in worldwide shipped units. Speaking at the meeting, Sony Computer Entertainment president Kaz Hirai also noted that the game helped shift hardware.

Games were put a bit on the back burner for this particular briefing though, as Hirai announced a number of non-game initiatives for the PS3 and PSP, including new video and news services.

it says confirmed sales not shipped figures for all you air heads read

now why do you think vg chartz has the total number of sales at 1.90 million ??? and only about 650k for others including europe

  Japan America Others Total
Total Sales 0.55m 0.65m 0.70m 1.90m

You realize that these are shipped figures as confirmed by Kotaku and every other person on the interent that has asked. This is like coming to the prom a week late. Those figures are shipped, and therefore, a 2/3's sellthrough is plausable.

Either way, when NPD rolls around we'll see how the numbers stack up, but chart-tracker is pretty much in line with VGChartz, if I'm not completely mistakes, for the UK. I'm even certain that chart-tracker publically announced that MGS didn't move hardware like analyists were expecting in UK, so be careful about how optimistic you are about your figures.

It hasn't sold 3 million units to consumers, that's a given. In fact, with 3m shipped from yesterday, I expect the highest possible amount sold could be 2.5m. 1.9 seems a little low, but like I said, it's plausable.

 *sigh*

Quite frankly, i am sick of everyone being uncertain of whether sales data is 'shipped or sold'.

Can't everyone just get their facts straight, and actually discuss sales figures?

It's shipped figures, end of argument.
