(...) and instead concentrate on just the latest development: CIG filing a court document on January 17 demanding that the lawsuit instead be dismissed with prejudice rather than without, meaning that Crytek would have to pay at least some of CIG's legal fees.

An indie collective released 48 games in one day on Steam
https://www.pcgamer.com/an-indie-collective-released-48-games-in-one-day-on-steam/
Remember Sokpop Collective, those wacky indies who make multiple small games a month? Well, they’ve just released their entire back catalog on Steam. That’s 48 new games in a single day. That’s not actually very impressive, because all the games were already finished. What is actually very impressive is that the games are full-featured: Achievements, trailers, etc. The games are available as Season bundles at 25% off, individually for $3 each, or in one gigantic bundle for 40% off.

Creature-collecting MMO Temtem drops details on training and breeding your monsters
https://www.pcgamer.com/creature-collecting-mmo-temtem-drops-details-on-training-and-breeding-your-monsters/
Temtem, the upcoming creature-collecting RPG published by Humble Bundle, has released a new trailer with a look at what it’ll be like to play the game. Earlier this week, we got a look at the game. Here’s a bunch of details on Temtem, if you're not acquainted. The trailer outlines how Temtem breeding works, noting that it’s a “more intense” system for players, emphasizing risk vs. reward and gaining unique abilities only available via the breeding system. There are also glowing luma Temtem, which have better stats and are rarer. These will feature prominently in the game’s end-zone. (This is an MMORPG, after all.) The creatures available in the end zone will change every week—in fact, the trailer says it will feature “new Temtem every week.”

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne lays out some 2020 roadmap, PC parity in April
https://www.pcgamer.com/monster-hunter-world-iceborne-lays-out-some-2020-roadmap-pc-parity-in-april/
Capcom has released a graphic with the Monster Hunter World: Iceborne update roadmap for the first half of 2020, through May, with detailed information on January through April. Notably, the PC version of Iceborne will be synchronized with the console version in April—-both versions will have the same content. The PC Game will get large angry ape Rajang and the Volcanic Region in February. In March, it will get Stygian Zinogre, Safi’jiiva, and the Tundra Region. In April, to achieve parity with consoles, it will get two unannounced variant monsters, new Arch-Tempered and Master Rank versions of existing monsters, and the Astera/Seliana Fest. Despite bugs and setbacks, it seems that Capcom is still determined to provide ongoing support for Iceborne on the same level as the console versions received. There’s also a teaser here, for a “fan-favorite” monster in May—which could literally be anything because there’s someone who stans every single monster in the series—and new monsters for June and onwards.

Looks like Unity of Command 2 Axis missions are coming
https://www.pcgamer.com/looks-like-unity-of-command-2-axis-missions-are-coming/
Developers Croteam and 2x2 Games have released a beta patch for Unity of Command 2 that adds a standalone scenario for playing the Battle of the Bulge as the Axis powers. The Update 10 Test adds the scenario “Wacht am Rhein!” to the game, allowing players to take on the command of German forces in a scenario specifically designed to be played that way for the first time. While fans on Steam Workshop have already hacked together scenarios as the German army, this is the first signal of the inevitable full-fledged Western Front German campaign for UoC2. You can download the beta patch and try out the new scenario on Steam by going to Game Properties, clicking the Betas tab, and using the drop-down box to select the beta branch.

Ubisoft files lawsuit against hackers selling DDoS service
https://www.pcgamer.com/ubisoft-files-lawsuit-against-hackers-selling-ddos-service/
Ubisoft has filed a lawsuit against a website allegedly selling a DDoS service that's been used against Rainbow Six Siege servers.
The SNG.ONE website sells subscriptions, ranging from around €150 to €500 and payable only by Bitcoin of course, which allow purchasers to choose from a variety of targets. While SNG.ONE currently advertizes itself as a service for testing your own firewalls against attack, Ubiosft's suit alleges that its owners also ran r6s.support, which targeted Siege specifically, as well as listing other potential targets customers could choose from including Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, FIFA 20, and Fortnite.

See an entire apartment recreated one-to-one in VR

Part of what's interesting about virtual reality is its ability to put you in the kind of bizarre spaces M.C. Escher would look at and say, "That's a bit much." But it's also cool to see ordinary places recreated with fidelity, especially when you can then walk through that space with a VR headset on as Greg Madison does with a wireless Oculus Quest after mapping his apartment in VR.

Death is a matter of paperwork in the free demo for Death and Taxes
https://www.pcgamer.com/death-is-a-matter-of-paperwork-in-the-free-demo-for-death-and-taxes/
There are, famously, only three certainties in life: death, taxes, and games where you play as the grim reaper. We've had Deadbolt, and Grimm's Hollow, and lots of others I can't remember the names of, and here's another that makes you the reaper—don't fear it, eh?
Death and Taxes imagines that reaping isn't quite so grim, it's just slightly banal. It's Papers, Please but more upfront about the weight of your actions: you're literally picking people to die, from a list of potentials. That's because you're a newly fashioned reaper, and it's your day job. You sit at your desk and read through character sheets and pick up your stampy thing and, after some deliberation, you mark one of the mortals for an imminent death.
