Personally, my only complaint is that it wasn't Edelgard or Dimitri (Claude would be a bit tough as a mounted bow character). Three Houses was my favorite game of 2019 and I suspect the characters will go down as among the most memorable of the whole series. As such, it will age fairly well. Again, though, I would have gone with one of the House Leaders since they are more memorable than your mostly-silent avatar and have a whole lot more personality behind them.

In any case, if you were surprised that we got a Three Houses character after it's already been announced that there would be DLC beyond the first pack, then I think you were fooling yourself. I was a bit surprised we got it here, but I would have been more surprised if we never got it by the end of the DLC offerings. It was just a matter of time.

I agree that the House Leaders have more memorable personalities (since they actually have personalities), but from a gameplay perspective I can see Byleth having more going for him.  He's the only one who can use the sword of the creator.  He's also the only one who could actually wield all of the relics (albeit not in the same playthrough), and using four different weapons feels natural for Byleth while Claude using an axe for instance would seem kind of off to me.
