If games focus on game play the clichés don’t matter. You start noticing the clichés when the game play is shallow.

Take BotW for example, it has the cliché lf clichés but a lot of people (me included) spent a lot of time playing that game because the game play is superb.

If games focus on game play then there is a much higher chance that I get bored and go play something else.

That's why quotes that pretend everyone is the same are outdated.
