People are focusing too much on the VR part of this and not the bigger picture. Even if you don't care for VR, this is Valve returning to the Half-Life franchise after 12 years of silence. It means that the franchise is not dead, and that while this may not be HL3 necessarily, there is still hope for the franchise where that can still come out eventually.
Plus, this isn't "just a VR" game. Valve has been specifically calling it their flagship VR title ever since 2017. They want to push VR and show what you can truly do with it and why you should pay attention to it. It's exciting to think about.
