The problem has nothing to do with a "free mode".  The problem is that you are paying full retail price for each game, but you are only getting the right to stream it for as long as it is on Stadia.  You own NOTHING with this model.

PC, PS4, X1, and Switch allow you to own physical copies of your games for the same price.  Licensing goes bad, you still own your copy.  Even with digital purchases, as long as you don't delete your games, you retain what you buy if that happens.  This is not the case with Stadia.

I could give two craps about discounts for the 10 dollar a month sub too, because guess what!  XBLive, PSN, hell even Nintendo Switch Online offers their own discounts for the same, if not less, cost of entry for the online service.  Oh and yes, you get to keep those games as well.

While what you say is technically true I wouldn't act too high and mighty about "owning" games on console, because frankly, you don't. Since consoles are closed platforms and are updated remotely with firmware the platform holder has complete power over what games you can and cannot play on your system. They control the DRM and they have absolutely the power to make your system deny to play even physical copies of games. So unless you're talking about PC neither digital nor physical are safe from the platform owner. And if the owner of the platform has that much power you sure as hell don't "own" anything.

It's fine to be skeptical about streaming and DRM, but using console games as a shining example of game ownership is kinda ridiculous. This was true 20 years ago but not anymore.

It would be illegal for them to deny me to play a physically bought game, for which I have a container that stores the data (a disc or cartridge). At least here in Europe.
