To be honest, it's a good business strategy - limit the content you already have, and you can use that content as a selling point for any future games with little to no effort. Not me, I ain't buying another Pokemon game that fails to live up to it's name. I'm sure I wont be the only one either, but of course that wont be enough make a difference to Game Freak.
