From my standpoint people reviewing a game can take off points for anything they want. That's why I like to focus on the content of reviews than the scores attached to it. Even with a game with glowing reviews like Red Dead Redemption 2, I was able to get a sense this was not for me by reading what was praised and what was criticized within reviews that ended with a 100 or a 95.

The same is true for very low scores, you can read them and see what is pointed out and if the flaws highlighted are not a big deal to you then you can still feel confident the game will be good for you.

I agree.  Scores get way, way too much publicity.  They're really just for the sake of a very rough comparison in a crowded marketplace--and for bragging rights.  You learn very little from a bunch of arbitrary scales all mashed together.

I honestly feel kind of bad for people who heavily depend on metascores, not unless their tastes match up exactly with the average from a tiny group of reviewers.  I know mine do not.  There are plenty of low scoring games I'll take over 90+ games any day of the week.  If I relied on metascores to determine what I play, I'd probably end up drifting away from gaming.

Simply reading one or two reviews gives me far more information than a metascore.
