There are no rules when reviewing a game. Gaming publications are incentivized to write quality reviews because that helps them get more readers. If they do a poor job with their reviews, they are going to lose readers/subscribers until they no longer profit and have to close shop.
Metacritic is the average of all publications reviewing the game, and the score that a game gets is the MC score. If you think some reviews are biased and need to be filtered out, then you are muddying the playing field. If you have a go-to publication that you prefer, then you can take their advice about the game.
