I know. They have other data tied to their services. As does NPD, on top of the ones they provide for free (sales rankings).
Now their 'most accurate' sales data is tied to the rest. They built up that reputation, and get customers from it.

This may give an incentive for Famitsu to follow suit though.

I think it will, sadly. Up until three weeks ago, GFK/Ukie used to post the top 20 games in UK (even though it was just the ranking) for free, but now you need to have a membership to have access to it.
