When Sam asked “any one?”, the “pillar” responded, and the “pillar” was probably set by other players, so when Sam is calling, he’s not calling NPC, he’s calling other players. And it turns out the “pillar” is actually a charging station.
Some one might not noticed, but here in the footage, we can see the ground where Sam was walking by grew some grass, just like the 2018 E3 trailer(go check it out again if you are interested).
