That doesn't really make it any better. It's still a company adding microtansactions to a game long after launch, and effectively bolting a free-to-play economy to a remaster of a 20-year-old game that you still have to pay real money to get. This isn't even the first time Activision's done this, and I have no patience for this stuff. I don't mind microtransactions in free-to-play games as I understand they need to get their money somehow, but I will never buy them in games you pay money for. All they do is make me less likely to ever buy those games, and certainly reinforces my decision to just never buy games at launch again.

I am not saying it is a good thing but if I have to choose with buying outright dlc or doing it this way I prefer this way because most people will easily get from the pitshop what they really want. It took me 2 days to get my summer coco skin/paint job/wheels/sticker and kart. It will only feel like grind for people who want everything, it is like playing GT or Forza and say it takes way to long to buy all 600 cars.  If I had to play 8 hours to unlock one skin I would agree that the grind is horrible.
