They aren't the only ones to do this, but I hope it does not become a new trend for AAA publishers and indie devs, going forward. 

TBH, as long as it doesn't affect the pricing afterwards this wouldn't necessarily be a bad trend imo. Because it forces the game to be reasonable, and a good game, without micro-transactions at launch.

Prices for Skins/Karts/Decals in CTR and coins earned for races is already established, so it would be difficult for them to try and raise the prices to push people to buy coins and if they did so there would be a backlash, backed by evidence.

So MTX being added at a later date may actually be good for the game because they're forced to make the game enjoyable without it.
