Although I've played my fair share of traditional turn-based jpg's in my day, I'd be lying to myself if I said if that genre of games required skill.
I will also make the obvious argument that the more you play a game, the better you get at it. In my case it was games I played a lot and got good at unintentionally. As a matter of fact, any game I tried to get intentionally "good" at never saw success. Street Fighter is a good example. As much as I played SFIV, I could never compete with the pros.

My list:
Mega Man X series: I played them so much I could sometimes finish them without taking damage
.
Resident Evil 2 & 3 for PS1: If youtube was a thing back in the day I would probably be a top speed runner

Dance Dance Revolution: I never realized how good I was until I was at a mall late 2000's with a few of my siblings and my nephews. My nephews quartered-up on a DDR arcade machine, and I made jaws drop that day. Truth be told, I used DDR to stay fit as I was bit chubby and out of shape. I hated exercising but loved video games. I figured if it was a game I wouldn't get bored. DDR was a lifestyle until about 2013. Would play it 2 hours each night before bed. I got extremely good because I played it religiously for about 5 years. It was the healthiest 5 years of my life.

MGSIV: I completed the game so many times that I could effortlessly finish the game without a single kill in under 2 hours. The big mama motorcycle level was the only thing that truly challenged me.
