It depends what you're after. MK8 is more accessible and friendly to people who aren't that good or haven't played before. CTR if you're new to the game you've not got a chance. There's no bullet bill to take you from 12th to 5th.
Mario Kart 8 is more accessible, casual friendly and good for playing with a wider range of people.
CTR is more skill based and competitive.
