This thought came to me after the whole 'Legacy Edition' thing, a though about the possibility of Nintendo making their own sports titles.
Not with the licensed players and stadiums sure, but titles that were in house Soccer, Football, or Hockey sports game. Either with their own casts, or importing Nintendo characters. Possibly both.
(Who wouldn't want to play soccer game between the Mushroom Marauders and the Nohr Natuicals?)
Assuming a new studio or something making the thing: I'm sure there are out of work FIFA developers that Nintendo could give a few million dollars and an office to make these things. I'm honestly more curious what that would do.
An argument to the issue with EA Sports and Switch is the idea that there doesn't seem to be an audience for them on the Switch. Be that from quality issues or interest issues, take your pick. But if there were soccer games, for example, that sold several million copies that could show that yes, there is interest in that type of game.
Yet at the same time it could be argued that if there were two serious contenders for a sports style, it might actually be a reason to not go, as EA could decide 'hey, they already have a soccer game they prefer more, we shouldn't try'. Such thinking doesn't explain Medal of Honor and Anthem's existence, but it could explain why Super Sluggers hasn't revived.
...I don't know, this was just an idle thought. If Nintendo did take to having a studio set to making sports titles that are the same as those of EA and 2K's output (as oppposed to Camelot, whose Mario sports games are for things like Tennis and Golf that don't have a EA sports counterpart) that did well, would that be encouraging to EA that there is an audience, or a argument against involvement due to them having no place. (Or at least, use that as an excuse).
The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?
