'You should be able to buy games where you want to buy them' says Microsoft exec
https://www.pcgamer.com/you-should-be-able-to-buy-games-where-you-want-to-buy-them-says-microsoft-exec/
Microsoft has been haphazardly trying to court PC gamers for a while now, but this year's E3 seemed like more of a sincere effort. Old PC franchises are being resurrected, we've got old and new Halos on the way, and there's a new app to replace the terrible Microsoft Store. Head of gaming Phil Spencer says Microsoft's not trying to replace other stores, however, and the publisher's approach will be an open one.

Phoenix Point nails down September release date, will be on Xbox Game Pass for PC
https://www.pcgamer.com/phoenix-point-nails-down-september-release-date-will-be-on-xbox-game-pass-for-pc/
Phoenix Point, the upcoming X-COM-alike being developed by original X-COM creator Julian Gollop (technically Snapshot Games, the studio he co-founded in 2013), will be out on September 3, the developer announced today. And with the new date now carved in stone, it also released a new cinematic video illustrating the changing nature of the war against the alien invaders.

Souls-like vampire ARPG Code Vein brings giant anime swords to PC this September
https://www.pcgamer.com/souls-like-vampire-arpg-code-vein-brings-giant-anime-swords-to-pc-this-september/
If you like Dark Souls and fantastically huge anime swords—and by my count, a lot of you sure do—post-apocalyptic vampire ARPG Code Vein is once again on the horizon. Last year's E3 trailer said it would be out in September of 2018, but that came and went. And here were are again, at E3, with another trailer and another September release date, only it's 2019. Hopefully this time they mean it.

Zombie Army 4: Dead War gameplay shows four players stomping zombie heads
https://www.pcgamer.com/zombie-army-4-dead-war-gameplay-shows-four-players-stomping-zombie-heads/
The Zombie Army Trilogy is a series of stand-alone Sniper Elite campaigns where the Nazis are replaced with Zombie Nazis—basically the same thing, except there are more of them and they move slower. At the PC Gaming Show yesterday, Rebellion announced a fourth game in the series, Zombie Army 4: Dead War, with a stylish cinematic trailer. Today, it's showing off gameplay.

Microsoft Flight Simulator alpha and beta test signups are open
https://www.pcgamer.com/microsoft-flight-simulator-alpha-and-beta-test-signups-are-open/
The return of Microsoft Flight Simulator, revealed with a stunning trailer at the Xbox press event at E3, stirred up a surprising amount of interest around these parts. And if you got the same sort of nostalgic twinge when you saw those big hangar doors sliding open, you can now sign up for the Flight Simulator Insider Program, which offers behind-the-scenes updates on development through private forums and "exclusive" weekly newsletters, plus—this is the big one—opportunities to take part in technical alpha and beta builds.

Get a Halo-inspired Spartan Ship Set for Sea of Thieves for free this week
https://www.pcgamer.com/get-a-halo-inspired-spartan-ship-set-for-sea-of-thieves-for-free-this-week/
Sea of Thieves is essentially a fashion show. It's a ton of fun, especially when you've got a good crew to go sailing with, but when you get right down to brass tacks the goal is to do piracy so you can make money so you can buy stuff so you can look good. That's it.
For the duration of E3, however, you can make yourself look good (in a very specific way) just by showing up. Anyone who plays either Adventure or Arena within that time frame will be given the Spartan Ship Set, inspired by Halo and developed "in partnership with" 343 Industries.

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics is coming to PC later this year
https://www.pcgamer.com/the-dark-crystal-age-of-resistance-tactics-is-coming-to-pc-later-this-year/
The Dark Crystal is a 1982 fantasy film directed by Jim Henson and Frank Oz, and while its Muppet heritage is unmistakable, it is definitely not a movie about the ongoing adventures of Kermit and co.
All of this is relevant now because En Masse Entertainment, the publisher of Tera, announced today that a strategy-RPG called The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics will be released later this year. The game will actually be based on the upcoming https://www.netflix.com/ca/title/80148535">Netflix prequel series, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, with an 80-mission campaign across a diverse range of territories in which the Gelfling "seek to restore light to the world and fulfill the prophecy."

Quite a few Epic Store 'exclusives' are surprisingly coming to the Microsoft Store
https://www.pcgamer.com/quite-a-few-epic-store-exclusives-are-surprisingly-coming-to-the-microsoft-store/
Buried in the deluge of E3 news this week was a story that caught my eye: Metro Exodus is available to buy on the Microsoft Store. Wait—the same Metro Exodus that became an Epic Store exclusive earlier this year, shortly before it was released?
Metro Exodus isn't alone. There are actually quite a few Epic exclusives either already on the Microsoft Store or coming to the store in the future. "Exclusive" may have less to do with only being available through Epic's launcher, and more to do with not being available on Steam, obviously Epic's biggest competitor.

You can finish Cyberpunk 2077 without killing anyone
https://www.pcgamer.com/you-can-finish-cyberpunk-2077-without-killing-anyone/
During the lastest hands-off demo of Cyberpunk 2077 at this year's E3, it was confirmed that you'll be able to finish the entire game without killing anyone. CD Projekt Red tells us that this is a change the team made based on fan feedback and survey cards handed out at E3 last year.
"Right now, every weapon and every cyberware has a nonlethal option," lead quest designer Paweł Sasko told PC Gamer. Then he revised it a bit.
"I think I can say everything. There's one thing: only weapons that are lethal by definition, so let's say you shoot someone with a bazooka in his face. You shoot his head off. That's typically lethal."

Keanu Reeves can appear throughout Cyberpunk 2077, because he lives in your head
https://www.pcgamer.com/keanu-reeves-can-appear-throughout-cyberpunk-2077-because-he-lives-in-your-head/
During the E3 trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 we saw Keanu Reeves appear as Johnny Silverhand, an iconic character from the Cyberpunk 2020 tabletop RPG CD Projekt Red is basing the game on. But something unusual happens at 3.45 in the trailer: there's a visual glitch, and for a second Keanu's not there. You can see powerlines right through him just fine, so it's not a problem with the protagonist's cybernetic eyes, but something stranger.

George R.R. Martin wrote Elden Ring's 'overarching mythos'
https://www.pcgamer.com/george-rr-martin-wrote-elden-rings-overarching-mythos/
If you were wondering how involved George R.R. Martin was with FromSoftware's next game, Elden Ring, it sounds like he played a big part.
Yesterday, we picked some juicy details out of a Microsoft interview with FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki—namely that Elden Ring will be very big—but there are more details on the collaboration to discuss.

FromSoftware didn't think George R.R. Martin would actually agree to work on Elden Ring
https://www.pcgamer.com/fromsoftware-didnt-think-george-rr-martin-would-actually-agree-to-work-on-elden-ring/
Expectations are very high for Elden Ring, thanks entirely to the names behind it: The open-world action-RPG is being developed by Hidetaki Miyazaki's FromSoftware in collaboration with Game of Thrones guy George R.R. Martin. That's a pretty promising team-up. But as Miyazaki explained in this Xbox Wire interview, he didn't actually think it was going to happen at all.

Elden Ring's open world will not have towns, will be traversable on horseback
https://www.pcgamer.com/elden-rings-open-world-will-not-have-towns-will-be-traversable-on-horseback/
Elden Ring, the forthcoming fantasy RPG by From Software, will boast a conventionally sprawling open world, rather than an interlocking Metroidvania style map. It'll be a departure from the likes of Dark Souls, Sekiro and Bloodborne, but it won't feature towns, according to game director Hidetaka Miyazaki.

Star Control lawsuit settled, both sides will cooperate on current and future games
https://www.pcgamer.com/star-control-lawsuit-settled-both-sides-will-cooperate-on-current-and-future-games/
Well over a year after it began, Star Control Origins studio Stardock and original Star Control creators Paul Reiche and Fred Ford have announced that they have reached an amicable settlement in the legal dispute between them. The settlement arose from a direct phone call from Reiche to Wardell, in which they spoke at length about bees and related matters before moving on to talk about the case.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2019 will see the return of Spec Ops cooperative mode
https://www.pcgamer.com/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-2019-will-see-the-return-of-spec-ops-cooperative-mode/
Since the official reveal of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, studio Infinity Ward has only discussed the game's campaign component. But during an E3 Coliseum event today (embedded above), the game's narrative director Taylor Kurosaki revealed that the series' Spec Ops mode will be making a return.
