They (Google) have to port every game engine out there to use the Vulkan API since DirectX is a no go on Linux ... (using WINE is a bad idea for performance since it just increases their operating costs of having to go through another software layer) If you want gaming to improve on Linux or become more cross-platform then Stadia should be rooted as a positive development so that game publishers can show a path for game developers all around the world where they wouldn't have to be under the tyranny of Microsoft anymore or any other closed source system vendors ... (Sony/Nintendo) |
Please explain how putting it into another closed platform (stadia) under the tyranny of google will solve it?

4k Stadia will probably be a problem for anyone with a data cap. Depends how much you play. 4k - 15.75gb per hour (35mbit) So 4k would use 1TB of data with 65 hours, 1080p with 113 hours and 720p with 226 hours. So if you played 2 hours a day, 4k would eat almost all the 1TB cap, 1080p would eat half of it so you could probably get away with that depending how much of your cap you normally use for other things. If someone plays more than 45 hours in a month 4k probably isn't viable if you have a 1TB data cap. |
Well I don't think people that will get Stadia are the type of player that would average 60h/month of gameplay. Someone that play over 2h a day at 4k would probably be more interested in consoles.

Unlike those behind the PS4, at least the people behind Stadia don't force developers to use another proprietary gfx API like GNM on PS4 ... We may not agree with Google Stadia's business model but we should embrace the politics behind it because the platform is powered with open source technology which makes it far more likely for game developers in the future to release their games on Linux ... If we want to effectively combat Microsoft's interests then we need to rally behind Stadia since it has the most potential to open up gaming on Linux ... (getting developers to have a Vulkan backend is half way through the work for a potential Linux version) IMO Stadia depending if Google has the longevity to invest in it is the best way to destroy Microsoft's monopolistic grip on PC gaming ... |
As far as I know devs can make their game very close to the metal and not some type of tyrant language that devs need to sell their soul.
