There are certain plans that give you unlimited data if you pay more but most Americans have a data cap.

I find that somehow shocking. Here in Australia we have unlimited data for every internet provider and it is the plan that is mostly advertise as because anything below it is not worth for its price. 

For a price comparison. 1month of unlimited data = Retail Launch price of a AAA game or like a Nintendo Game. (Of course there is price difference for some internet providers + data packs for extra speed)
