They could have a $199 PS4 system for budget gamers, a $299 Pro for those who want a little more power under the hood, and the premium $449-$499 PS5 for those who want next gen graphics. All 3 will get cross-gen support for at least a year or two, so there really isn't a need for them to have a weaker next gen system to compete with the Lockhart. And by the time the PS4 is discontinued, PS5 will see its first price cut, probably dropping to the $399 sweet spot.

It all depends on how strong Sony wants ps5 sales to be, I reckon. Your price strategy seems to me that it'd make ps5 first year sales to be quite slow.

Not really. There are people who bought PS4 in the first year or two. They are ready for next gen and wouldn't buy a PS4 over a PS5, regardless of how cheap the PS4 gets. These will make up the vast majority of PS5's early sales. The cheaper PS4 SKUs will be for budget gamers who wouldn't buy the PS5 til it also hits $199-$299, anyway.
