I think it's one of the most perfect games ever.  Super Metroid has no flaws in my opinion and maybe the best 2D game of all time.  That perfect playability that 3D can't really match.

But Deus Ex is a richer experience to me, with the perfect balance of gameplay styles and story I like, but with some flawed execution.

 

I agree with everything you said. I've never played Deus Ex though so I don't know about that.
