Not nearly as much as we do now. As civilizations came to an end so did their libraries and other archives of knowledge were destroyed in the process as well ... With digital technology, we are more entrenched than ever in the brave new world of information and it makes for a far more sustainable future ... As long as humanity continues to see value in data, we are never going back to the dark ages because there's tons of humans out there who know too much about the world operates. Now, I'm not arguing we'll never see a period of stagnation in some fields such as digital technology but as long as humanity retains current knowledge in the future then they'll always have the possibility of keeping hope or making progress ... |
Yea that was a main problem with libraries back in the day. Most of the time to conquering civilization would burn them down which doesn't make sense to me but perhaps they used ideology or religious difference as an excuse.
I agree with you that we will probably never go back to the dark ages again but things might start to stagnate till a genius or national will makes the next breakthrough. Only way I see us going back to the dark ages would be if we nuked ourselves to death. Life and earth would go on without us and maybe in another billion years higher levels of life can start evolving. I forgot how much longer the sun has left. Think it still has 4 or 5 billion years left.
