It is ? The world is better off than before since it values data when it can enhance the way we do science and engineering ... 

We've always valued data hence why libraries have been around since ancient times.  We just have access to it more now with the internet.  Yet most traffic on internet is for porn.  Seems like researcher these days are using AI and algorithms to help compile our data.  I can only imagine a Terminator scenario for us in future.  Either that or the movie Idiocracy.
