My 3 or 4 Tb HDD have been in use for more than 3 years, like 100 games on it and still have some free space.
But OS I think will only be solved if I put an SSD as the primary.
One tip though, reconstruct the library after you end transferring all data to the HDD and you'll have your primary in better shape and OS working better
