Be Inc. never made a profit.
Be Inc for the most part was in its investment period, building up their impressive tech. Amiga was in a similar position until Commodore bought the company.
A Windows competitor isn't built in a day, neither was Rome. But Be Inc had PC builders interested in their operating system, there were signed deals, until Microsoft (ab)used its anti-competitive monopoly advantage.
