Looks to me like the game has a problem of genre confusion. Sony marketed it as an open world adventure game, but it's really an open world survival game. You have to ride your bike everywhere. You have to scavenge for gas. Fast traveling is limited. You have to constantly gather resources and craft everything. Only certain settlements in the game will let you craft certain things. So you'll have to physically ride your bike all the way back to those different settlements, or waste gas on fast traveling.

That, and the game looks to be more buggy than a Bethesda title.

I know certain people that would love this game though. The ultimate problem is that the survival genre (DayZ, Ark, Subnautica) is often filled with tedium just for the sake of survival. Subnautica was the only one of that genre that I liked so far.

I still went ahead and bought it. After I took out the usual troll reviewers that bomb even critically acclaimed games as well as the reviewers tied to sites that went with the generic male white guy outrage, it's closer to an 80. Still not fantastix but I amn't expecting fantastix, I'm expecting a good survival, open world game and that is what all the reviewers I trust are saying. Pity abiut the file size though, I'm getting sick of games having double what is stated on the store and it really makes a difference to me for preloading. Would have loved to put on a pot of coffee and do the midnight release ritual and I eok't get that now because there is 28 extra gig that needs downloading and a storm on the way. I might not even get the full game down by Sunday if the storm is particularly bad. I'd have preloaded this last night and gamled on the reviews if I had known.

Good on you. I miss being able to customize my trusted outlets on Opencritic. The game is probably more like a 75 or so, considering that Slant gave it a 1.5. Also, I wouldn't trust GameSpot or IGN for multiple reasons. I prefer reviews from Easy Allies, Destructoid, Attack of the Fanboy, and USGamer. Let us all know how you like it!
