There is no question that PS3 sales in Japan have bordered on terrible. The sales in the US have been solid - without spectacular. Compared to the PS2 it is doing real badly - software as well as hardware. The Wii is selling software 4:1 vrs the PS3. To answer your question - its simply because of these stats. They don't really mean a lot - we'll have a much better idea of how this is all going by the end of the year. And its also 'cos the PS2 was the dominant console of the last generation - that is why people are picking on Sony. No one really cares that the PS3 is still outselling the 360 in Japan easily (already doubled its install base) - as there weren't huge expectations for it (in Japan at least);.
