I've stuck around watching the series because I love the work from special effects people and make up artists on the zombies, but to be honest, this series lost my admiration from the third or second episode of the first season.
There is a like a good episode or two in every season, but there is a lot of stuff in the series that just doesn't work or is plain boring. The episode with the heads on pikes had that "wow" scene we rarely get, but taking that episode and the way that they missed the opportunity of reacting to that event in the following episode is pretty much the story of this series: missed opportunities and bad decisions.
My favorite character is the dog. Whenever the dog shows up it means business and is never a mouthpiece for melodramatic and pseudo-philosophical one-liners like the rest of the characters.
