koopatrooper: you get a star if you finished all GP's with at least one star, same goes for 2 and 3 stars.
About the race today: I wasn't paying attention on the first GP, so when I looked, we already were starting. I had to race as Mario in a freaking KART the entire Gp, man that sucked. 
Good thing the second GP went a lot better with my trusty bike.
