I'd question the notion that 360 is fairest price. Look at Elite vs PS3 and consider the difference. The issue with the PS3 is that its an all or nothing purchase. You get BR plus DVD playback capability, you get WiFi, etc. all of which makes it a very good price - also to be honest I believe the build quality on the PS3 is superior.
What 360 offers is more choice - i.e. you can purchase a bare bones system with no WiFi, HDD, etc. and of course it as no HD movie playback.
However I don't think that makes it fairer - it just means it fits certain budgets better than a PS3.

firstly - the price difference is $168 vs $50 in the U.S and because we're an Anglo market the tastes here are quite similar to the US as well. FPS being popular, RPGs less so for instance. The price difference is unfair when compared to the U.S. too.
secondly - the bolded, Wireless isn't used much here and HDTV/Blu ray penetration is even lower than in the US. In the video rental stores theres perhaps one half of a side of a standalone stack devoted to blu ray compared to say 5 times that for just the Xbox360 games.
thirdly - We are less wealthy than the U.S/Europe so the price difference makes up a greater proportion of a persons income.
Tease.
