The problem is that instead of Epic coming out with a store that was equal to or better than Steam, then enticing devs with better incentives (this part I believe they do), they released a bare bones storefront with poor security and features, then just started buying up timed exclusives to force people to use their store if they want the game on release. It's a shitty business practice and I'm surprised to see anyone support it.
