Sony should choose lite versions of the latest AMD tech available when production will start. Settling for penultimate tech could save some costs in the earliest period of PS5 life, but later it will eventually cost more lifetime, as it will give less performance for a given silicon area, losing soon its initial cost advantage, not to mention that later production cost-reducing process refinements and shrinks could eventually start being available only for latest architectures, furtherly widening the gap. Last, but not least, lower power consumption for the same performance will bring savings on power supplies and cooling systems along the whole production life.
