Right now you can currently download and own Standard Definition movies and Rent HD movies (720) from them it is only a matter of time before you can buy and the resolution goes up as well.
On a personal note when I rent an HD movie on my Apple TV I can watch it withen 10-15 minutes, and the entire movie downloads within an hour. But I have Verizon FIOS, and they also don't restrict how much I download like some other satanic companies.
