Actually, thats not true. If you use UE4, Epic removes that 5% if you sell the game on their store, so really, you’re going down from 35% to 12% (for smaller games), or 25% to 12% for a big game.

Not entirely true either, it's 20% for really big games like Borderlands. Possibly even lower. Steam said their games work in multiple tiers, so really big games increasingly go down. Whether that's just down one level or multiple we don't know iirc.
