I saw a video that said you can learn a really good skill by collecting 5 Koi scales and buying a skill scroll from a secret vendor, definitely going to do that when possible.

Not really worth it, you're better off focusing on the latent skills. The early skill with the two swipes is better(forgot the name) as those five hits from the floating passage will most likely just get blocked or parried.
