I have yet to play Devil May Cry V but I suppose that it's similar to Bayonetta, and if the gameplay is on that level then fighting monsters, picking up orbs (or halos) and going through crazy cutscenes is all you need. 
These games aren't for everyone so it's ok to not "get" it.
