The first non-exclusive that I wanted with Final Fantasy XIII which came out in 2010 (and also was somewhat disappointing).  So, yeah, not a lot of games for those first few years.

I guess I was lucky to just get my PS3 by end of 2009. And with Uncharted. Don't remember being dry for games ever since. Then I bought PS4 within 6 months of release and sure that I had very few choices in the first year.

I didn't think much of the first Uncharted.  Uncharted 4 is actually lightyears ahead of the first one, which was ok, but not that special IMO.  Likewise the first Assassin's Creed was available early on, not an exlusive, but still there.  But the first one was not that special either.  The game had potential, but it was shipped before it was completed.  Assassin's Creed 2 felt like the game that the first one should have been.  I did just remember one game I really liked that came out earlier, and that was Civilization Revolution in 2008.  That was an authentically good game.  Not an exclusive but still fun.

Valkyria Chronicles and Demon's Souls were also good, early-ish exclusives on the PS3.  The main problem is that I didn't discover them until later.  Maybe the real problem was that there best games weren't promoted very well?  All of the high profile games, like Killzone 2 or Resistance: Fall of Man, I was like "meh, not for me".  When I hunted around for a while I actually found good games that most people weren't talking about.  PS3 was trying to seem too much like the XBox360 IMO.  Whereas they actually had exclusive games that were unique, but they didn't highlight them very well.  Kind of a marketing failure I guess.
