Those days are over for me. Retreating in the basement to play pc games I mean. I mostly game on out old 1080p tv nowadays that sits alongside the 4k tv that's used by my wife and kids most of the day. The advantage of a laptop is, can use it anytime, anywhere. My projector in the basement hardly ever gets used anymore. However with a gaming laptop I can easily plug it in for a quick game. Somehow that seems more justifiable in my mind than getting a gaming pc that gets used maybe once a month.
The cost markup is remarkable though. This could cover my actual needs for a while

CAD 1000 less, yet also no 1tb storage, much slower cpu, half the ram, and according to the review bad display and flimsy keyboard.
I'm also looking on newegg.ca for comperative laptops with the gpu. However I really have to look in store to see if the keyboard and display are acceptable.
It seems that if I want 16gb ram again, that Acer Predator is actually a very good deal. On best buy it comes up with a 3k MS surface and on newegg 16gb laptops with 4 usb ports start at CAD 1477 (still wuthout a 1tb storage drive)

cons: gets too hot, yeah no surprise. Perhaps not that big of a concern for some light gaming. Besides, they stat 97F for gaming while putting the fan on max. My current one can burn your fingers with the air that comes out :/ At least they like the keyboard and display. Sound is shit, yet that's what headphones are for and when connected to the tv sound will go over the 5.1 surround system. Battery life is a shame though, 1 movie and a half they state. (My current one only makes it 20 to 30 minutes off power after 5 years) I wonder if raising up the back a bit to get better air flow is better than letting it sit flat on the (metal) table.
You get what you pay for and the Canadian dollar just isn't very strong anymore. Hence the xbox one x is still 600 here. Yet shit laptop, plus xbox one x is about the same price, but then no pc games. decisions decisions :)
