This why I laugh when I read comments about MS getting ready for a future with no HW and Sony may get left in the dust if the console market changes because they only rely on the traditional console market. First of all, that isn't happening for a few more decades. Traditional HW is here to stay for at least another gen or two after the next one. And second, like you point out, Sony has really been the first to jump on the future. While MS was trying to push hardwired cable as a big selling point for the XBO, Sony was coming out with PS Vue. While MS was playing catch up on what Gold subscriptions gave, Sony already had Cloud saves. And before this gen even started, they were laying the groundwork for PS Now.

Sony has always been looking toward the future, whether it be true analog sticks, motion controls, or VR. A world without consoles is no different. However, they don't try to force it on those who are not ready for it just because they can't sell HW. Right now, these are just options, but if a console-less world becomes a reality, Sony is ready for it.
