It doesn't matter how much competition a previous game saw, it won the amount of GOTY awards it did because it did. Matter of fact. Ocarina is a 99, God of War is a 94. Matter of fact. Doesn't matter how they got there. They're there.

Whoa whoa whoa... Let me stop you RIGHT THERE. Regardless of the debate you're having with the other person; it's silly to compare ANY game released now to Ocarina of Time for one simple reason...

Metacritic was NOT around when Ocarina of Time launched. The reason why that's important is because, even though as many reviews were around for GOW as OoT - there wasn't a Metacritic to aggregate those reviews for Ocarina of Time. And if it was - it'd have more than 22 reviews and lower Meta than 99...

Im willing to bet that if Metacritic gathered all the old reviews that they obviously can't now; Final Fantasy 7 would be the highest rated video game of all time - closely followed by Chrono Trigger and A Link to the Past.

Point is that it's EXTREMELY important to consider and take into account on how Ocarina of Time got it's coveted score of 99 on Metacritic.
