Mega Man is not about telling a story. The minor details that you want from the story are inconsequential; what would knowing Dr Cain's death on screen bring to game? Nothing! absolutely nothing. Let's be real, Dr Cain is NOT an important character in the series. X is a cartoony drama about role of self aware androids and their place in the world. Should they be created to just to serve humans? They were created by humans.... but they are sentient. Game handles these topics with grace of a Saturday morning cartoon and that's by choice. X6 establishes that all Reploids carry DNA, which essentially is their programming. As long as that is not damaged beyond repair they can come back infinitely. Were talking about anime Robots bro. Everybody assumed Sigma to be dead after X3. Both X and Zero are very surprised to see Sigma back in X4 implying that it's been awhile. Same thing in X7. So, its not something that happens frequently. After X5, every appearance of Sigma gets worse and worse, signifying that he is having a harder time coming back each time. Btw, Light capsules are NOT pre recorded. We know that as early as the SNES games. Its Dr Light as an A.I. Lot of this stuff can be inferred, but you seem to what someone to smack you over the head with a hammer. A lot of minor details that would not enhance the general plot at all. |
I dont agree with you at all.All those points I mentioned are not minor details, every explanation you have for any issues I bring up are never explained on the game(as far as I know) and you are just making assumptions, which is the same problem I have with Dark Souls.
But what i dont agree with you is that the story dosent matter for the X franchise. The original Megaman series is the one where story really dosent matter. Its not that much different than Mario:Whatever excuse they make up for Megaman to go on his adventure is just that, an excuse. They are not bothering to tell a significant story because they want the gameplay and the level design to be the heart of the game.
But when Capcom set out to make the X series, they had a bigger ambition:not only to evolve the gameplay that started with Megaman, but also to add a significant story, to move you and make you invested on that level too.If story wasnt all that important, why did they create a very good reason for Sigma to keep comming back?(at least until X3)I mean, he is a robot, they could simply say that he had a minion that picked up his parts and built him back up, if story really didnt matter. Why did they make X question his existance, about who he really is and thus give his caracther depth?Same for Zero? They both could be the classic hero as Megaman is.
See, X isnt simply just about gameplay.Im not asking, nor even want, a complex story like Metal Gear. But I do want a consistent and coherent story, for as simple as it is, and Im not alone.
On a side note, I would love that Megaman X receive the "Metroid Prime" treatment.Capcom was on the right track with that game way back when they made a demo of an X game in first perspective. They just had made alot of wrong design choices.Giving X a gun?Taking out his human face to put a weird robot face?Making the game art style to be realistic?Ugh.But other than that, it was a good idea.I hope that they go back to that someday.
My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.
