But I wouldn't call what we are doing properly handling ourselves as a species

A lot of that stuff is simply not true.  Healthcare continues to improve at an extremely rapid pace, as does access to education (the quality of which we can debate forever).  You mention homelessness, but the fact is that far, far fewer people live in extreme poverty today than at any time in history.  Trump is scum, just like Obama, just like Bush, just like Clinton.  Brexit is just the political issue of the day, it doesn't speak to how well humans are doing in general.  War has been the only constant throughout all of human history.  Yeah, it's bad.  But, it ain't new.  The middle class didn't even exist until the last hundred years or so.  Previously, they were all just poor all the time.  We have nukes, yup.  But, nobody is using them.  

By nearly every objective measure, life is getting better for humans.  You can pick out problems if you want. You can dwell on the negative if you want.  But, that doesn't change the fact that were all lucky to be alive now, versus any other time in human history.  

Which part isn't true? Are you saying the US healthcare is better, or NHS is better right now or Canada's healthcare? The world is in constant swing but we have never truly been able to take care of ourselves, have we? As you said war is a constant and that just means we have never been able to take care of ourselves properly. It can be argued that we are getting ther or we are not but we have certainly not reached it. Education is worse now for sure as in the quality. The quality sucks so much many professors aren't even at that calibre. I can honestly say my grandfather and people who were educated in his time were truly knowledgeable and at a higher level than most of us right now. Sure the no. of people who were educated were lower but that's another topic. And the middle class in the time that it existed is not the best right now. With all these issues and many more, in which way would you call humanity right now as properly handling ourselves? Tell me what your metric is because my initial claim wasn't about where we are vs where we were, it's about properly handling ourselves. We can't solve simple issues with two neighbouring countries, how are we in a position to take care of every species on earth. That was my premise and you yourself are helping my case here. You're not really arguing against me here neither am I against you. We are just talking about 2 different things
