For the most part but the game is also filled with modern trends. Not only that, but it also doesn't support traditional mods, another substantial part of DOOM's DNA. 

That being said, even with those drawbacks, DOOM 2016 would be my wife if it was a woman. 

Yeah saying it's "just like DOOM" is too exaggerated. I think it could still take a few more lessons from the original games personally. But - it definitely felt like a DOOM game made in 2016. Which it did very well. Just a few more lessons taken from the OG games, and it would be the ultimate New Classic Original Shooter Deluxe U : P
